So I know I'm not the only one who has those hours, days, even weeks of feeling like you're in a rut. For me, it feels like there's a fog around me, a heaviness that's keeping me from feeling inspired and motivated.
I've come up with 3 helpful ways to help kick start your energy so you can become more open for inspiration! Here's what's helped me:
1. CLEAN THINGS UP
When you're in a rut, having a hard time making decisions, and don't have the energy to do much, I highly recommend you CLEAN. Clean up your room, your purse, your fridge, your closet, your house, your car, your work space, anything and everything that can, do it. This will help clear some mental space for you to think more clearly. When our environment is clean and tidy, we internally feel better. Not to mention, this ties PERFECTLY into tip number 2!
2. FINISH WHAT YOU'VE STARTED
Going off of number 1, you are already developing major will power! By starting the task of cleaning and finishing it, you not only feel better within yourself, but you have room to breathe. When you finish a task, your "will-power-muscle" is strengthened, and you build endurance for getting things done. Checking things off of our list of things to do helps elevate stress and can prove how productive we really are! When we complete a task, it's a perfect way of finishing things up and letting them go. This now ties perfectly into tip number 3!
3. PROVE YOU CAN LET IT GO
We often feel boggled down by thoughts, emotions, and momentum that's directed in a way we'd like changed. Prove to yourself you can let things go by getting rid of something in your house you don't need. Old clothes, old makeup, old journals, something you use once a year, anything. When you can prove to yourself you don't need to hold onto things that aren't serving you, you develop the ability to do this mentally. You can learn to let go of thought patterns and old habits. By creating more space within our psyche (and body) we cultivate more room for more free flowing energy. This opens us up to new and fresh ideas that will come naturally without force.
And just to be even more helpful, go check out a new activity based class! A new yoga class or maybe your favorite one taught by someone different. A new pilates or barre class, maybe kick boxing or jogging. Get your heart rate pumping and try something new. This will freshen things up for you.

I've wanted long hair for as long as I can remember. I use to wear extensions when I was younger, believing I would never be able to grow my hair long and healthy. Mind you I had no idea that food & how you took care of yourself resulted in your physical health... I use to eat junk food, fast food, candy, greasy pizza, lots of dairy, slurpees, the list goes on. I also use to drink alcohol, smoke cigarettes, take drugs, blow dry my hair, color my hair, straighten my hair, curl my hair, and wash my hair everyday.
When my hair became very brittle, dried out and broken, I decided to cut it up to the bottoms of my ears (well..a little longer than that). I think I cried for up to two weeks about it. I felt ugly, open and exposed. I didn't like myself very much, so showing more of my face and skin brought up a lot of insecurities.
Anyway. After chopping my hair off (a good 12 inches or so?) I decided it was best for the health of my hair if I stopped using heat products. I also stopped coloring it. I let it grow naturally, and I don't think I trimmed it? I may have once and can't remember, but I usually do not get hair cuts.
There are a few products I use on my hair that has helped make it feel soft, healthy, and vibrant. Here's what I use:
1. Nature's Gate Shampoo & Conditioner
I've been using Nature's Gate hair products for a few years now and genuinely like how it makes my hair feel. The conditioner helps to reduce my tangles (and with my long hair, I definitely get them). I only wash my hair about 2 times a week, and that's typically because it needs a good cleaning from me working at the car wash, or I need to get the tangle out.
2. Deep Repair Masque
I use Macadamia Deep Repair Masque once every two weeks. I've used it for over 3 years now. After I wash my hair, I apply it to all of my hair except for the roots, and let it soak in while I rinse myself off and shave my legs. Then I comb it with a wide tooth comb, and rinse out the rest. This leaves my hair super soft and mostly tangle free.
(Marshalls sells them).
3. Detangling Spray
Like I said, my hair gets really tangly, especially at my job. So I spray Johnson's no more tangles all over my head almost every time I wash my hair.
I have one more bottle of this so I've just been trying to finish the product before trying out a new spray. If anyone has any recommendations, please leave a comment below!
4. Conditioning Mist
I use Alba's leave-in conditioning mist along side my detangling spray. I apply this to my ends to keep them soft and loved :) This just adds a few extra self love points to my hair care. It makes me feel good applying this to my hair.
This is my ritual, and I've been following it for over 1 year now. My hair has grown so long, longer than I ever believed it could. (It has taken me over 3 years to grow as long as it has, remember-I started super short)! I also stopped trying so hard, and just let it do its thing. Patience is a huge part of the process. It still takes time to grow, just like anything you begin to "water".
Eating well, exercising, breathing more, moving your body, having fun, healthy supplements, drinking water, all take part in the health of your hair (and body). So if you're trying to grow your hair, support it naturally and as organically as you can. Maybe stop blow drying it and let it air dry. Or stop using heat products. Let it breathe and find its way back to life through your love and care.

Most of us have experienced the effects of cystic acne/blemishes/spots/etc. I could list several reasons on how they can dampen our sense of liveliness, or why they diminish our self confidence. But, I want to talk about the good that can come from acne. Weird...I know, just hear me out.
It's taken me years to try and see the bright side of things when it comes to my skin (something I'm still working on). However, I've recently been able to reflect on how beneficial it has been. My acne has lead me down the road of health and wellness. I've learned so much about nutrition, essential oils, DIY facial serums and washes, how to be more mindful, how to relax more, the list goes on. My acne has truly been the reason why I'm spending time learning how to nourish myself, how to love myself, and how to be kinder to myself. We are sensitive beings dealing with a lot of daily stress. When our skin flairs, there's something deeper going on.
Through personal experience, I've come up with 6 tips to help combat cystic acne. These remedies have helped to soothe and heal my acne, and ease my mind and heart.
1. Caster Oil + Steam
One trick that's really helped ease the pressure, redness and sometimes swelling has been steaming my face for about 20 minutes, and then applying caster oil with a cotton ball. Caster oil has a lot of healing benefits. It can help to soften, nourish, and cleanse the skin - cleaning out pores and removing dirt.
- Wash your face so it's clean
- Steam your face for 20 minutes (I place a towel over my head to keep the steam in)
- Once finished, wipe off water and apply caster oil to a cotton ball (I wet the cotton ball & squeeze out the water, and then apply the caster oil)
- Go to bed! Leave it on overnight to work its magic. Be sure to wash your face in the morning time.
- TIP: When steaming your face, notice the thoughts that arise. We hold on to a lot of energy, and some can be stored in our pores. Just notice them, and let them fade away with the steam.
2. DIY Face Mask
That's right, facials! When my skin is feeling irritated, I always use my go-to facial mask. I create a spirulina face mask that helps to soothe my irritated skin. I have used this face mask for over a year now, and it's by far one of my favorites. Here's how to make it:
- Mix together 1 tsp of spirulina powder, 1 tbsp of manuka honey, and 2-5 drops of water to help smooth out the paste.
- Next, apply it to clean skin, leave on for about 15-20 minutes, rinse off with warm water, and moisturize. This mask will leave you feeling more at ease.
This is a huge one. Sometimes our acne is a sign that we have a lot of internal stress going on that needs to be addressed. Meditating in silence for 10-15 minutes can be so beneficial for ourselves. It helps to clam the mind chatter, soften the body, and connects us to our higher selves. When we are more connected to something greater than ourselves, we feel better. The more we practice being still, the easier our guidance comes through on how to handle LIFE. So try it out! I meditate every morning for 10-15 minutes with a blanket over me.
4. Practice Yoga
It's no secret that yoga is powerful in many ways. Related to this topic, yoga can help relieve a lot of stress that you might be carrying. It helps bring you to the present moment, which helps you develop a sense of personal awareness. The more you are aware of your body and how you're feeling, the more grounded you will become. Connecting breath with movements helps to guide stuck energy within the body, out. Our skin is our largest organ, and if we have blemishes, it could be a sign that our body is struggling detoxifying.
5. Hot Lavender Towel
Warm a towel with hot water and apply a few drops of lavender essential oil over it. Rub the towel together, and press against your blemishes. This brings a nice soothing effect to the skin.
6. Be Patient & Focus on Self Love
TLC has never been more magical! When we have acne, it's time for extra love! We tend to do so much for everyone else that we lose ourselves in our day to day lives. Take a hot epsom salt bath, light some candles and write in a journal, cook yourself a delicious meal, give yourself the attention you deserve and desire. The kinder we are to ourselves, the lighter we will feel.
I hope some of these tips help you on your journey. They've definitely helped me on mine! Also be mindful of eating a clean diet, this will help to cleanse the body from the inside out (where the issue resides). Lots of water, lots of plants, and lots of positive thoughts going into your food.
